County Chairs

People who are county chairs of a political organization, such as the Alabama Democratic Conference, tend to hold positions of honor or influence in their communities. For example, doctors, attorneys, judges, and other wealthy business people usually head such organizations, because they know many people in the community and could possibly influence them. Others, however, who might not be as visible in the community but who have close ties with professionals or others who could be helpful in accomplishing the group’s mission are also frequently appointed as county chairs. County chairs are typically invited to the group and then the matter is voted upon. However, those who would like to become county chairs can apply for such positions themselves.
